Two year Post-Graduate Programme

Vision:

To emerge as a world class department in learning, research and extension by the holistic exploration of the human society.

Mission:

  1. To facilitate quality education, research and training of global standards at masters and doctoral levels in Anthropology.
  2. To provide comprehensive knowledge and transferable skills in Anthropology and allied disciplines for the employment in governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations.
  3. To establish national and international collaborations with research institutions and other organizaions in order to advance disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge.
  4. To offer training in capacity building to the members of Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations.

 Qualification Descriptors:

After the completion of two-year MA programme, the students will be able to:

  1. Exhibit a holistic understanding of the various specializations of the anthropology and emerging domains.
  2. Employ knowledge and skills required for identifying and analyzing social problems and developmental issues in all the domains of anthropology.
  3. Innovate and apply anthropological knowledge and skills in addressing diverse societal problems.
  4. Demonstrate capabilities and talents suitable for wide range of employment opportunities, such as, faculty and research positions in national and international organizations.
  5. Disseminate the results of anthropological studies using the techniques, concepts, and theoretical frameworks.

Programme Learning Outcomes

After the completion of two-year MA programme, the students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of theory, method and application in various domains of anthropology.
  2. Interpret human diversity and cultural processes to appreciate human ancestry and cultural heritage.
  3. Equip with ethnographic methods to question and critically examine sociocultural processes at micro and macro levels.
  4. Demonstrate analytical thinking and skills in locating contemporary issues in their wider context.
  5. Collect the data from primary and secondary sources and organize it thematically in order to derive useful insights.
  6. Build a culturally sensitive and socially inclusive approach to the multicultural fabric of society focusing on ethnicity, region, religion, caste, and gender.
  7. Create novel concepts by fusing theoretical and field based research and evolve strategies to address societal needs.
  8. Demonstrate capacity to work in interdisciplinary research teams, inspire colleagues to excel, and acquire capabilities of self-learning and life-long learning to become social entrepreneurs.
  9. Use the qualitative and quantitative research methods to understand the complexities of a globalized world.
  10. Demonstrate capability to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and social research in a variety of learning and work environments.
  11. Demonstrate the ability to participate in debates on contemporary issues and articulate viewpoints coherently in oral communication and documentation.
  12. Develop ethical consciousness and moral awareness in one’s own profession.

 After completion of six semesters at the College for Integrated Studies (CIS), IMA students are laterally admitted to the M.A programme of the Department.  The Courses offered to the I.M.A students in their VII semester onwards will be the same as the ones offered for the M.A students for their I, II, III and IV Semesters)
