It is a preeminent department for Social Anthropology in India. The Department offers IMA, MA, and PhD programmes in Anthropology. A key component of the MA programme is the guided, field-based ethnographic research conducted after the 3rd Semester, during the month of December. Additionally, internships are integral to both the IMA and MA programmes. The Department facilitates a wide range of internships in both the public and private sectors to give students opportunities to practice their skills.<\/p>\n \u200bThe Department provides training in both theoretical and applied research in Anthropology, equipping students to meet the academic challenges of urban\/rural\/tribal field studies. Apart from studying cultural diversity, the Department is oriented towards applying anthropological knowledge to understanding social problems and contemporary issues.\u00a0 In addition to core courses in Anthropology, the Department offers a wide range of electives, including Business Anthropology, Digital Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, Development Anthropology, Urban Anthropology, Ecological Anthropology, Anthropology of Food, Anthropology of Public Policy, Natural Resource Management, and Family and Kinship Studies.<\/p>\n \u200bThe Department has vibrant faculty with diverse research backgrounds and interests.
